OneTrust alternative

OneTrust alternative for DPDP
consent, with sources.

A consent-by-consent comparison for teams deciding whether they need an enterprise privacy suite or a consent platform built around the DPDP Act, including where OneTrust is clearly ahead.

01

Who should choose TryTrustable over OneTrust?

Consider TryTrustable instead of OneTrust if consent for Indian and EU users is the job, you want proof of each choice in a hash-chained ledger with the notice version and language attached, and you want Indian data kept in India. Stay with OneTrust if you need IAB TCF, 250+ languages, or a privacy suite far beyond consent.

OneTrust is a broad privacy and data governance vendor, and its consent product is one part of it. Consent by TryTrustable is a consent management platform sold on its own, on the same control graph as the rest of the TryTrustable platform if you later want it.

03

When TryTrustable fits better than OneTrust

DPDP proof, not only DPDP features. Section 6(10) of the DPDP Act puts the burden of proving notice and consent on the Data Fiduciary. TryTrustable stores what each person saw (notice version, language, purposes, time) in an append-only, hash-chained ledger, so a record that was altered is detectable. The DPDP guide explains why a boolean flag does not meet the Act.

Indian data in India. Indian customer data is resident in India, stated on the security page. We did not find a hosting statement on OneTrust's product or pricing pages.

Consent evidence that counts elsewhere. On the full platform the same consent controls count toward DPDP, GDPR, CCPA and SOC 2 requirements through cross-framework mapping, so consent is not a separate island of evidence.

Buying only what you need. Consent by TryTrustable is the whole consent engine as a standalone product, with its own dashboard, for teams whose problem this quarter is consent.

04

When OneTrust is the better choice

OneTrust is the stronger choice in several situations.

  • IAB TCF. OneTrust states TCF v2.2 and 2.3 certification[3]. We do not support TCF at all.
  • Languages. More than 250[2], against our 22.
  • Scale and ecosystem. OneTrust states 750,000+ websites use its Cookie Consent[2] and 200+ pre-built integrations[3].
  • Breadth. OneTrust sells a wide privacy, data governance and third-party risk portfolio. If you want one vendor for all of that, a consent-first product is the narrower buy.
  • Maturity. TryTrustable is a younger company, and our own SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certification is in progress, as the security page says.

A plain word on IAB TCF. TryTrustable does not support the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework. It does not produce a TCF consent string and is not on IAB Europe's list of registered CMPs. If you sell programmatic advertising in Europe and your ad partners require a TCF string, that is a reason not to switch to us today.

05

What switching from OneTrust involves

Check first whether anything downstream reads OneTrust's own consent cookie or its TCF string, such as tag manager triggers or ad partners. Those need re-pointing at the TryTrustable choice or at Google Consent Mode, and a TCF dependency cannot be re-pointed at all.

Installation is one script tag, first in <head> and not async, so the blocker exists before anything else runs. Remove the old banner in the same release: two banners mean two writers on the same tags, and Google Consent Mode in particular should have one source of truth.

Consent records do not migrate in any meaningful sense. A record proves what a person saw on the old banner, so keep the old platform's export as the record for that period rather than re-dating it into a new system. The TryTrustable ledger starts on the day the new banner goes live. If your notice or purposes change in the switch, that is a new notice version and needs fresh consent anyway; if they do not, existing choices can be honoured by asking again only when the old consent expires.

Questions

The things people ask us

Does OneTrust support the DPDP Act?

Yes. As of September 2026 OneTrust has an India DPDPA solution page describing automated collection, management and withdrawal of consent and handling of Data Principal rights requests. TryTrustable also covers DPDP, with notices versioned in 22 languages and the language each person saw stored on their consent record.

Does TryTrustable support IAB TCF like OneTrust?

No. OneTrust states it is IAB Europe certified for TCF v2.2 and 2.3 and appears on IAB Europe's CMP list. TryTrustable does not support the Transparency and Consent Framework and produces no TCF string. If your advertising partners in Europe require TCF, OneTrust meets that requirement and we do not.

Does TryTrustable support Google Consent Mode v2 and GPC?

Yes. The TryTrustable banner sets all Google Consent Mode v2 signals to denied before Google tags load and updates them per purpose when the visitor chooses. In US opt-out regimes a Global Privacy Control signal is honoured as an opt-out and recorded on the consent record. OneTrust states support for both.

Is TryTrustable cheaper than OneTrust?

We cannot say. OneTrust publishes a pricing page without prices, based on average daily visitors, and TryTrustable quotes plans after a call. Compare written quotes for the same domains, traffic and features. Consent by TryTrustable is sold on its own, so you are not quoted for a wider platform you do not need.

How is proof of consent different between the two?

OneTrust describes a Consent Receipt that records each choice with version history, change tracking and a timestamp. TryTrustable writes each choice, with purposes, notice version, language and action, to an append-only ledger in which every entry is hash-chained to the last, so an edited record breaks the chain detectably.

Is TryTrustable a registered Consent Manager under the DPDP Act?

No. A Consent Manager is an intermediary registered with the Data Protection Board under Rule 4 of the DPDP Rules 2025, which comes into force on 13 November 2026, so no vendor is registered as of September 2026. TryTrustable is a consent management platform: software a Data Fiduciary runs on its own site. The same distinction applies to OneTrust.
